Hi everybody!! Here some patterns for you to have fun  with.
Practice slowly and use a metronom. If you have questions, send an email to paivaviena@yahoo.com I will try to help you as much as i can. Brazilian drumming is not a mystery, there are techniques and a method that will help you to learn and understand everything.  So donīt think itīs something you canīt learn or understand since if you can clap in time, you can learn the South-American stuff. But remember, tha it is very important in the Brazilian style to play the drumset as  it would be a percussion instrument .
An advice for soloing: try to sing what you play.  It always helps  you to avoid to go on and play some "no meaning" licks. Nothing against licks but when you are playing drums try to make music . It will make you happier and will get you further.
An advice for  young people: Drugs and Drums donīt go together. Why?

Because drumming is a very physical thing and you have to have everything under control , so forget drugs ! After 20 Years playing drums  I tell you: I do know better

People ask a lot about the rhythms from Brazil and how they could learn it. My advice: take some Brazilian percussion instruments and try to learn first  to play the different percussion rhythms  from Brazil. It will be much easier to start with, than to apply those  to the drumset.
A last word for now:

Never give up!!It doesnīt matter what people say. Practice hard and try to be honest to yourself.Be patient if you want to progress in your drumming and keep that attitude. You will make it!!

      Here  some  rhythms  for you

In this exercise, first you play the sistem with your right and left feet and right hand, until you get comfortable  .After you get that start playing around the kit with your left hand the differents examples .Than the right the hand and finally with alternate sticking (Right ,Left hand)

In this exercise first keep your feet going until you get comfortable with them.

Then play the different variations around the drums set (toms, snare, cymbal, etc)

Practice slowly

The following ostinatos are very good for to keep something going during a solo,,,you can play against that...inside that...etc...start by playing with the right and left hand the exercises 1 to 10,than all possible hand combinations on top of the Ostinato 1.In  Ostinato 2 play all kinds of triplets  on the top of what you are playing with your feet.Practice both ideas slowly...have fun!!!

OSTINATO 1

OSTINATO 2

In this exercise you work in your bassdrum, snaredrumcontrol.
This is really a great exercise for endurance, Start  slowly then speed up then keep the speed then You should  also practice  starting with your left     hand and playing instead the bassdrum your hihat , left bassdrum or left double pedal.
